Since people keep asking me what my plans are for the future, despite multiple posts proclaiming my retirement, I thought it would be prudent to make a new announcement.

I plan on working on Mitsudomoe Zouryouchuu! (みつどもえ増量中!) sometime between tonight and the following month. This show will require a lot of work (a ton of onscreen text and I will likely want to redo the current OP/ED karaokes) so I need to start building up the energy required to sit down and work on this series. Compounding the situation further is the fact that Fall is looming on the horizon, bringing with it a great deluge of quality video-game entertainment.

Since I know some of you will still fucking ask me in the Mitsudomoe Zouryouchuu! posts what I will be doing next (NOTHING!), I might as well start taking requests so I can ignore them in the future. My standard rules apply (like always):

- No one else can be working on it. No point in me working on something that someone else is releasing. This is the whole reason for my initial retirement.
- DVD or BD raws are available. I will not bother to learn how to encode, despite building one monster of a PC.
- The show can't suck. Self explanatory.

If the "1080p Styling" is superior, then I will have to redo all the scripts with different styling and typesettings to match HD resolutions. This will greatly increase the amount of time I spend cleaning up each episode.

Don't Look Back in Anger

So I am going to go into hiatus as there no longer seems to be a need for my brand of service. With each successive season of anime we are seeing a major reliance on the acquisition of subtitles from "official" (Crunchyroll, FUNinmation simulcast) subtitles, which means that many traditional fansubbers are no longer available or have been made unnecessary. This has created a "black market" for muxing groups to simply put the existing subs into higher quality Blu-ray rips.

Since the summer I have only released 6 shows, with only a single entry, Aishiteru ze Baby, not being picked up by a competing group. These overlapping series have for the most part received little attention by you leechers (low download rates; poor ratings on AniDB and MAL) and have left me a little "butt hurt" that they have been uniformly overlooked when submitted to places like BakaBT. I spend a rather exorbitant amount of time preparing my releases, and it seems that no one truly gives a fuck except me.

Starting with the Fall 2010 season I ultimately could only pick up three shows which interested me due to other groups quickly staking their claims (including Sora no Otoshimono Forte and Motto ToLove-RU, sequels to shows I previously released). Of the three shows I started, only Soredemo Machi wa Mawatte Iru! is actively being worked on. Shinryaku! Ika Musume has stalled as I have no desire to work on a show which is only seeing 150 total fucking downloads (abysmal!) and take me several hours to prepare each episode. I would love to continue work on Otome Youkai Zakuro, but due to a lack of additional DVD raws from Salender-Raws, I can't do shit.

I haven't even downloaded a single Winter 2010 anime in anticipation that all the "quality" shows will be released by other groups (Kore wa Zombie Desuka has already been released by Doki, Hiryuu has released the first episode of Freezing, and Kira-Fansub has released Dragon Crises, Infinite Stratos, and Onii-chan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janaindakara ne!!, for example).

On top of this, my resent behavior surrounding the release of the Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ 00-14 (BD 720p) Torrent really illustrates how incredibly disenchanted I have become about this whole subbing venture and I am starting to just "phone it in".

My initial intent for Polished Subs was to remux shows for my personal enjoyment. I am a video whore at heart, so I am always looking to maximize the video fidelity of my anime viewing. For this reason I started to work on shows which had not been updated to incorporate the higher quality DVD and Blu-ray encodes floating around the interwebs. The ability to distribute my files and have them downloaded by others was just a bonus to my personal affliction. Now that there are so many groups out there putting current subs on higher quality video encodes, there is no longer personal incentives to continue. I am no longer the force which drives higher quality anime viewing. I either need to re-evaluate my mission statement or end goal, or pack up my bags and leave.

My plan for the remaining couple of months is to finish the three ongoing shows (I don't drop shit. period.) and do some v2 patches for a couple of older releases where I made some glaring errors which should have been caught in my non-existent QC process. Beyond that, there are absolutely no guarantees that I will continue to make any releases, though, to be completely honest, I will probably pick up Princess Lover and Kodomo no Jikan, competition be damned. Higher quality uncensored boobies and sexually mischievous lolis far outweigh any "principles" I currently have.

So wish upon a star and prey to your many gods that some good shit remains untouched by other mortal hands so I can swoop in and raise them like they were my own.

Time to Cry to Good News and Tragic News

The good news. I am back. I should have Asobi ni Iku yo! 11-12 (BD 1080p) and Sekirei 12-13 (BD 1080p) out tonight if not tomorrow. Torrents will follow as a batch if they are either accepted on BakaBT or rejected. I downloaded the raws for the final volumes of Ookami-san and Mitsudomoe, both of which I hope to have released by Monday (March 13). So shed some tears of joy as we are near the end of the road for these "awesome" anime series.

The tragic news. My remaining grandmother, the linchpin of holiday gatherings and fine Swiss dining, passed away March 1st due to complications related to suffering a sudden and massive stroke on February 27th. I will miss my grandmother tremendously and am glad that I was able to spend so much time with her the past decade as I moved back to the Bay Area. We pretty much got together once a week, if not more, which is a lot more time then most people get to spend with their relatives.

On Tuesday of this week, Tracy, my 13-year old German Shepard, also left her mortal coil. Luckily for the both of us I had already reconciled her passing before my vacation. Two years ago she was diagnosed with breast (which we removed) and lung (too complicated to remove at her age) cancer, and a week before I was to leave for my vacation she dramatically fell into disrepair. Therefore, I was able to spend a good amount of quality and loving time with her.

Suffice to say, sad panda faces all around in my house.

What I did not change:

Episode 2 has massive sync issues inconsistently throughout the episode (it is off by up to 100ms at times). This is from the source and I could not find a way to fix it that did not throw everything off kilter.

Consistency. I break consistency several times throughout the show. First, I was for a while using "Aishiteru Alt" whenever someone was remembering something in the past. I later decided against this, but do not feel like going back and finding all instances and making them standard "Aishiteru" text.

Second, the scripts change at episode 18 from AonE to Lunar. Dialogue for the later episodes use alpha tags to hide some of the content as the character speaks. AonE just displayed the full text, even if the text was going to be up there for 10 seconds.

I seriously can't be arsed to to go back and make all episodes consistent. If you couldn't bitch then, you can't bitch now.

Anyone who has been following my releases knows that I have hit a serious wall when it comes to continuing to do my little muxing venture. Its not you, its me. I mean it. I'm just totally not feeling this anymore, and the energy I used to get from seeing a finished project is barely enough to keep me sustained.

Then late summer hit, and a flood of games were released. Luckily for you (bad for me) but the gaming season is over, so I have "free time" to kill until March (when it picks up for another two months).

The downside is now work is completely sapping everything out of my. I used to get a lot of subbing done while at work, but right now I have absolutely no free time at work and am even spending 3 hours on average at home continuing my workload. This is turning out to be a particularly bad year (as en example, the four day weekend I had for Thanksgiving still required that I put in 8 hours a day into my work) so I really can't get any of my personal shit done. Ultimately, this means there is less time I want to spend at the computer in general, and more time I want to spend in front of my projector watching anime and playing games.
